An ankle-brachial index (ABI) is a fast and non-invasive test used to assess for peripheral vascular disease. It is done by measuring the blood pressure in both arms and measuring the blood pressures in various areas of the legs with an inflatable cuff. A calculation is then done with these numbers to determine your ABI number. A low number can indicate possible blockage within the leg arteries.
The duration of the test is,The monitor will be mailed to the patient home with instructions on how to place it. When you have the monitor, you are able to shower, just remove the electrodes and then replace afterwards. You do have to sleep with the monitor on and resume normal daily activity.
